Brushing Twice a Day: Encourage your child to brush their teeth at least twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste appropriate for their age.

Supervise Brushing: Children may need supervision and assistance with brushing until they develop the dexterity to brush effectively on their own, usually around the age of 6 or 7. Ensure they brush all surfaces of their teeth and spend at least two minutes brushing each time.

Floss Daily: Once your child’s teeth start to touch each other, usually around age 2 to 6, introduce flossing as part of their daily routine. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gumline.

Healthy Diet: Limit sugary and starchy snacks and drinks, as these can contribute to tooth decay. Encourage a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Offer water as the main beverage between meals.

Regular Dental Check-ups: Schedule regular dental visits for your child, starting around their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Routine dental check-ups help detect any oral health issues early and allow for preventive measures to be taken.

Fluoride Treatment: Talk to your child’s dentist about fluoride treatments or supplements if your child is at high risk of tooth decay. Fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities.

Lead by Example: Children learn by observing, so make sure to set a good example by practicing good oral hygiene yourself. Brush and floss your teeth alongside your child to make it a fun and interactive activity.

Use Rewards: Positive reinforcement can motivate children to maintain good dental habits. Offer praise, stickers, or other rewards for consistently brushing and flossing their teeth.

Protect Teeth During Sports: If your child plays sports, encourage them to wear a mouthguard to protect their teeth from injury.
